Redeveloping parking infrastructure: How to adapt vehicle charging spaces?

Soon, soon... Everywhere under supermarkets and shopping malls we will see charging stations for electric vehicles!

Urgent challenges for companies - Time of change

From January 2025, there must be ready-to-use charging stations under buildings, serving both customers and visiting guests.

Electric car owners can't wait. The growing interest in electric vehicles, along with growing concern about climate change, is accelerating the green transformation and entailing revolutionary changes.

In Poland, from January 2025 the number of charging stations will in crease, all thanks to the act on strong parking lots with over 20 parking spaces.

Exciting times ahead!

As little as a drop in the ocean

Currently, Poland still lags behind other European countries in terms of "electrification" of transport. Compared to Germany, where drivers have access to an impressive number of 90,000 charging stations, our country has only slightly over 3,000. But our Western neighbors do not wait for orders, they actively introduce improvements in the area of electric vehicles themselves. Now they are placing an emphasis on ensuring that every station offers contactless payments.

This is what we expect - convenient, fast and trouble-free use of the charging infrastructure.

A step in the right direction

A law that forces companies to install charging stations in their parking lots is to be on the right track.

Any non-residential building withmore than 20 parking spaces must now provide at leastone station for every five spaces!

It's a promise of improvement, but there may be difficulties... This is especially true when it comes to cumbersome procedures that significantly delay the installation process. The current electrical infrastructure poses serious challenges and requires fundamental changes.

But will just over a year be enough to meet the new requirements?

Rivalry of giants: Biedronka vs. Lidl

Recently, we described the groundbreaking decision of the management board of Biedronka, which decided to install charging stations in the parking lots of its stores throughout the country. This is certainly a step forward, but it turns out that Lidl was here first! 50 car parks of the German network already offer places for zero-emission cars with the possibility of charging. The parking fee includes an hour of use of the charger (DC), although you will need your own cable for AC charging. However, the charging itself is free. New charging stations are to appear soon, including: in Luboń and Płock, but looking at the list of already operating stations in parking lots in Germany or Austria, it can be expected that their number will increase significantly.

Are Lidl's actions solely out of concern for customers?

There is no reason to delude yourself that the Act had no influence on this decision.

So we have to wait for the plans to be implemented, but every step towards greater availability of chargers is a positive signal, right?

FAQ:

What are the benefits of installing charging stations in parking lots?

  • Installation of charging stations in parking lots allows easier access to charging for owners of electric vehicles, which accelerates the development of electromobility and reduces greenhouse gas emissions.

Are the new regulations on charging stations mandatory for companies?

  • Yes, from January 2025, companies must provide charging stations in their parking lots if they have more than 20 parking spaces.

What are the challenges of installing charging stations?

  • Installation procedures can be tedious and time-consuming, and existing electrical infrastructure may require significant changes. Sometimes major work is needed to adapt parking spaces to the needs of charging electric vehicles.

Are retail chains such as Biedronka and Lidl involved in electromobility?

  • Yes, both Biedronka and Lidl are installing charging stations in their parking lots to support the development of charging infrastructure for electric vehicles. This is a positive step towards ecological transport.
