As electromobility develops, more and more people in Poland use electric cars.
At the same time, the demand for public charging stations is increasing.
Knowledge of the applicable regulations and technical requirements is crucial for the safe operation of these devices.
Therefore, it is worth getting to know the requirements that the infrastructure for charging electric vehicles should meet.
Legal regulations
The provisions regarding the technical requirements for charging stations can be found in two documents: the Act on Electromobility and Alternative Fuels of 11 January 2018 and the Regulation of the Minister of Energy on technical requirements for charging stations and charging points constituting an element of charging public road transport from 15.07.2019.
What requirements must charging stations meet?
1. Basic information
Charging stations and points must be appropriately marked.
The devices should include information such as:
* manufacturer's name,
* device type,
* serial number,
* rated voltage,
* frequency and rated current.
Users should have free access to the operating instructions and information on potential hazards. The telephone number of the station operator should also be visible, allowing reporting of any irregularities and faults.
2. Specialized software
Public charging points must be equipped with specialized software that allows easy connection and charging of an electric vehicle. Each charging point should be equipped with a measurement and billing system for measuring the electricity consumed.
3. Fire protection
Each charging station must have fire protection, such as: a main switch, a residual current circuit breaker and a residual current device. The location of the station must always be considered in terms of safety - the devices cannot be located in an explosion hazard zone.
4. Protection against damage
Charging stations must also be protected against damage. In this context, great importance should be attached to placing the station in an appropriate location that minimizes the risk of being run over by a vehicle. It is worth considering the use of posts, barriers or other similar protective solutions.
5. Access for people with disabilities
Public charging points must be accessible to people with disabilities. Therefore, this should be taken into account both when choosing the location of the device and when designing any protection measures.
6. Extension cords
Extension cords or adapters must not be used when charging an electric car.
7. Service and repairs to the station
Repairs and technical inspections of the charging station may only be carried out by authorized persons. Technical inspections must be carried out before the device is put into service, after service, any modernization or change of installation location. This work must always be carried out in accordance with the station's operating instructions and properly documented.
